Newer version (1.31) can be found here: https://blueeagle421.itch.io/super-space-siege

I highly recommend to give it a shot! Base mechanics are the same, but there is a lot of new content.

The page above will be probably deleted after the voting period.

Disclaimer: I know that for several reasons this game wouldn't run on a GameBoy. The number of enemies on screen, turret's rotation and smooth camera movement is technically not possible to run on theme devices, but I really liked the idea and decided to go for it. Despite technical stuff I designed Space Siege to feel retro as possible. I had a blast developing this game and I hope that you also will by playing it!

A tiny game made for GBJam 11. The theme was "Space" and I decided to go with it literally. The gameplay is mostly standard tower defence with a little twist that your main character is one of the turrets. Your mission is to defend all six artifacts while waves of enemies approach you.
Current version: 1.2 (includes small bug fixes, audio improvements and a brand new health bar)

Important note: I just found a bug which causes the game to not run properly after reseting. If you lost then just reload the browser and it will work. Will upload a hotfix as soon as voting period is over.

Every feedback will be much appreciated!

I played the 'super' version, and i think its great. The only problem is that i was learning what stuff did while playing the ga- oh, it already ended...

What i am trying to say is that a tutorial whould be usefull, or some tutorial levels, because the way it works now is also really cool! Only what the point of the game was and what does special walls are, and what the weird tube does... I dont know

So explaining the game would be nice ;)

And my second point is that it isnt hard, i have played the entire game in 2 phases:
1. make a shell of everthing i get

2. Spam the z button.

Gameplay wise its not very interesting, but the graphics and idea of the game kept me entertained. And i had a fun time! So you did well on that part!
The graphics and the retro looks are also really cool!

I understand that this is a game jam game. But these are the points I would improve if you will develop that further.

Good luck!

Hello! Thanks a lot for your feedback! I'm glad that still enjoyed it :) It's a good thing that you mentioned the tutorial. I was thinking about it and now I know that it's needed. I probably won't make a special level for it, but instead some short descriptions for newly acquired building parts.

The "special walls" are actually just regular "rocks", but with much more health and a fancy animated texture. The "weird tube" is a time accelerator and it makes everything in the game except for enemies movement 10 times faster.

I was also thinking about adding some  lore to make the objective clearer for the players. I have a general idea about a story so I might implement it in the next update.

I hope I provided some explanation for how certain things work and thanks again for your feedback. I will surely improve this project in the future. Cheers!

Maybe the lore is a good plan. But i really enjoyed the way i was learning, it just wasn't very clear, so having some short tutorial levels could be a really fun and original way of doing it. Good luck with the game!

Maybe you could add a cost to the 'blocks' so you have to be strategic with what you place and what not.
